Introduction｜はじめに
The Hozugawa River Boat Ride
is one of Kyoto’s most famous experiences.

The Hozugawa River
has been an important waterway
for more than 400 years.
In the early 17th century,
the river was improved
for transportation
by the merchant
Suminokura Ryoi.
During the Edo period,
boats carried timber,
rice,
and many other goods
to Kyoto and Osaka.
Today,
the Hozugawa River Boat Ride
is one of Kyoto’s
most popular sightseeing experiences.
保津川は、
400年以上にわたり
人々の暮らしを支えてきた川です。
17世紀初めには、
豪商・角倉了以によって
舟運のための川が整備されました。
江戸時代には、
木材や米など
